Sommer Ranch

Nestled in the San Gabriel mountains, just a short drive from Los Angeles, Sommer Ranch boasts a complete breeding, training and sales center for purebred Andalusians of pure Spanish, pure Portuguese and pure Spanish/Portuguese decent. Services offered to the public include the sale of our own premiere Andalusian stock in an array of rare and unique colors including the true, Blue/Black; Palomino, Buckskin, Smokey Black, Smokey Cream and Cremello. We also provide a nationwide sales referral service for both pure and partbred Andalusians available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada.

Sommer Ranch was the home to the legendary bay stallion, BRAVIO. We salute his accomplishments, as well as the accomplishments of his amazing offspring. His passing in August of 2003 has left a large hole in our hearts that no one can ever fill. But we look forward to continuing his legacy with his mirror image son....BALITOR, the big, metallic red/bay stallion. BRAVIO earned incredible honors during his career as our showing, breeding and exhibition stallion, but most of all we will remember him for the loving family member that he was to each of us. Please be sure to check out his link under stallions.

BALITOR made his own living history when he became the very first Andalusian stallion in the United States to be a confirmed carrier of the newly isolated “pearl” gene. A gene we know he inherited from his sire. UC Davis is expected to publish their findings in the near future. In the meantime, you can find out more about this gene by visiting Balitor’s or Bravio’s page on this website. Can you also find additional research at the following link:

In a new light...and always progressive in our breeding program, SOMMER RANCH has taken on the new challenge of producing top quality purebred Andalusians of rare “dilute” coloration. We’re off to a great start with the importation of two purebreds from Brazil, XEROX HM and his full sister, ZEBRA HM (both double dilutes on a black base which is also known as Smokey Cream). Many people are familiar with their chestnut and bay counterparts, the Cremello and Perlino. Please refer to the double dilute website for additional information on this extremely rare color as well as a “color breeding chart”. We believe that XEROX is currently the ONLY Smokey Cream Andalusian standing in the United States today.

And then there is our Palomino Pearl, GUINDALEZA R and our frosted buttermilk Buckskin, SOLANNA (a Bravio great granddaughter). Clearly, you’ll find “gold” in our Acton hills! Be sure to contact us for a color copy of our foundation and sale stock brochure and DVD.
